Outer/Mid Layers

  • Rain/wind shell parka

  • 1 long sleeve light-weight  top layer

  • 3-4 short sleeve hiking shirts

  • 1 pair light-weight hiking shoes 

  • 1 pair flip flops

  • 3 pair hiking socks

  • Eyewear (bring 2 pair)

    • Mountain sunglasses/glacier goggles (that block light from the sides)

    • Eyeglasses as needed

  • 1 pair gloves

    • 1 pair fingerless light hiking gloves

    • 1 pair light-weight gloves

  • Hats

    • Fleece or warm wool beanie

    • Baseball cap

  • Buff (will be provided by IMT)

Gear

  • Large daypack – will enable you to stuff and carry your down puffy, an insulating layer, wind and rain hardshell,  snacks, water, etc.

  • Sleeping bag – rated to at least 30°

  • Collapsible trekking poles

  • Headlamp with extra batteries

  • Water bottle

  • Hydraulic water system

  • Water treatment tablets (For at least 50 liters)

  • Small pocket knife

Other personal items

  • Broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or more)

  • Lip balm

  • Hand sanitizer – 2-3 bottles

  • Wet wipes – 2 packs

  • Band-Aids

  • Small camp towel

  • Soap

  • Shampoo

  • Toilet Paper

Medications

  • Antibiotic for upper respiratory problems (Zithromax Z-Pak)

  • Diamox (acetazolamide) for acclimatization (125 mg tabs recommended, enough for a week)

  • Nifedipine (for pulmonary edema, the 30 mg time release x 2 tablets) and dexamethasone (for cerebral edema, 4 mg x 10 tablets)

  • Sleep-aids for the first few days of jet lag

Non-prescription medications that we recommend

  • Imodium for diarrhea 

  • Pepto Bismol (tablets recommended)

  • Ibuprofen

  • Throat lozenges

Immunizations

Please consult your doctor regarding the following immunizations:

  • COVID-19 vaccination and booster vaccination (required)

  • Tetanus-Diphtheria – You should already have. Do you need a booster?

  • Polio -You should already have. Do you need a booster?

  • MMR -You should already have. Do you need a booster?

  • Meningitis – Recommended. Consult your physician.

  • Hepatitis A – Recommended. Consult your physician.

  • Hepatitis B – Recommended. Consult your physician.

  • Typhoid – Recommended. The tablet form, Vivotif, is good for five years.
