IMT is excited to announce that Mayumi Fujio, a renowned fiber artist, will join IMT for our July trek to the Langtang region! Mayumi has a rich background in traditional crafts such as Ikebana, silver jewelry, ceramic art, and natural dyeing techniques using mushrooms and plants. Her passion for nature and art has evolved into creating beautiful botanical prints that blend time-honored methods with modern creativity which transforms the language of nature into stunning works of art. Mayumi’s mastery of botanical printing and natural dyeing techniques draw directly from the beauty of plants, flowers, and mushrooms.
During the trek, Mayumi will lead hands-on workshops where you’ll learn how to create your own botanical prints, using the natural elements of the Himalayan landscape. Through her process, you’ll discover how she reads the language of nature — letting the shapes, textures, and colors of plants speak through her art. Mayumi’s work, which is featured in prestigious venues like the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco and the Seattle Asian Art Museum is a fusion of tradition and modern creativity.
Below is a video of Mayumi demonstrating the technique:
